Dr. Tanuja Damani
Dr. Tanuja Damani provides compassionate surgical care, with
expertise in minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology,
as part of the Department of Surgery at Englewood Hospital and
Medical Center in Englewood, New Jersey. She has extensive
experience in complex abdominal surgery related to benign and
malignant gastrointestinal conditions. She works with medical
and radiation oncologists in order to facilitate a
comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the management of
abdominal cancers. Her focus is on minimally invasive surgery,
including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. In addition to
providing surgical care to the highest standards in her field
and focusing on outcomes of surgical procedures, Dr. Damani also
pays special attention to patient-physician relationship, as
well as quality of life and cosmetic outcomes.
Dr. Damani joined Englewood Hospital in September, 2011, which
has a national reputation for providing excellent patient care.
It is a nationally designated Comprehensive Cancer Center by the
Commission on Cancer, American College of Surgeons. Englewood
Hospital is also an internationally recognized leader in
Bloodless Medicine and Surgery, improving patient outcomes with
transfusion free medical and surgical techniques. The hospital
is also nationally recognized for its outstanding nursing care,
for which it has received a Magnet status several years in a row
by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Prior to starting at Englewood Hospital, Dr. Damani was
practicing minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant
gastrointestinal conditions at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York
City. As part of her ongoing commitment to surgical education,
she also served as the Assistant Program Director for the
general surgery residency there. She was also instrumental in
starting the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at the Cambridge
Health Alliance from 2005-2007, at which time she also served as
the Instructor for Surgery for the Harvard Medical School.
After finishing High School at the United Nations International
School in New York City, Dr. Damani went to Long Island
University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a major in
Molecular Biology and distinction in Honors Program. She
subsequently finished medical school at the Mount Sinai School
of Medicine in New York City, and then moved to Chicago for her
surgical internship and residency at the Loyola University
Medical Center. She obtained a fellowship/specialty training in
minimally invasive surgery at the University of California, San
Francisco. Dr. Damani is board certified in General Surgery,
credentialed in robotic surgery, and is a Fellow of the American
College of Surgeons.
Dr. Damani has educated practicing surgeons in advanced
laparoscopic surgery techniques at several courses nationally,
and has traveled internationally on a medical mission to do the
same. She has presented articles and videos on minimally
invasive surgery at national meetings, and has coauthored
numerous publications in several journals. She sits on two
committees on the Society of American Gastrointestinal and
Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the largest society of
gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeons.
